COAST & RAINFOREST - Self Drive
Experience a canopy ride and explore hanging bridges in Blanco River Canyon. In Liberia, hike to the Chorreras Waterfall then embark on a horseback ride to Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
This trip offers you a 7 day introduction to the natural wonders of Costa Rica.
Liberia is the gateway to Rincon de la Vieja National Park, one of the most volcanically active and wildlife rich parts of Costa Rica. Explore it on foot and on horseback, visiting hot mud pools and waterfalls, before relaxing in a thermal spring.
Get a bird’s eye view of the rainforest as you zip-line, rock-climb, rappel and wander through the forest canopy, where elevated bridges bring you up close and personal with a wide range of birds and primates.
Arrive in the popular beach town of Tamarindo, enjoying a full day at leisure before your transfer to Papagayo Gulf. A range of guided hikes and tours are available to help you get the most out of these beautiful destinations.
ITINERARY
Transfer from Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia to Canon de la Vieja Adventure Lodge located at Rincon de la Vieja National Park area. After lunch (extra cost), enjoy a short horseback riding tour through the Tropical Dry Forest, the Colorado River Canyon and take a dip in the Happy Monkey well.

A full day tour is waiting for you inside Rincon de la Vieja National Park. You will visit 2 areas of the park:
1. Las Pailas-Fumarolas
This is the area with more volcanic activity can be seen in Guancaste. Find hot springs, sulphurous lakes, fumaroles, geysers, natural steam bath, and small volcanoes in constant eruption, as well as flora and fauna that will see all around. It takes about 2 hours round trip from the ranger station.
2. The hidden waterfall
There are three falls about 210 feet. Its waters are pure and clear and you can see the lake bottom three meters deep. These waterfalls are located in the southwestern part of the slope of the active crater with about 3,600 meters above the sea level. It takes two hours to get from the ranger station.

The canopy has a total of 9 cables and 17 platforms which crisscross the canyon of the Colorado river. It offers an amazing view of the zone's nature in its course.
The zip lines range from 150 mts. (492 feet) to 360 mts (1181 feet) and 45 mts (147 feet) high. Just like in the other activities, special safety equipment is used, as well as expert guides making sure the experience is safe and enjoyable.
The trip lasts about 1.5 hrs. Recommended accessories for this trip are: shorts, sneakers, t-shirt and camera.
After this exiting adventure the lunch is waiting for you at the
Lodge. Later, travel to La Fortuna where the famous Arenal Volcano is located.
The transfer takes approximately 3.5 hours.

Arenal Springs Resort – 2 nights
After having breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a walking tour to La
Fortuna Waterfall. You will be picked up at the lobby of your hotel, around
8:00am, by a local representatives and be driven to La Fortuna Waterfall area.
On your arrival, you will have to walk 500m into the forest to get to the
waterfall, which is 70m high.
At the base of the waterfall there is a "natural pool"
where you can swim in the fresh water of La Fortuna River for about one hour.

In the afternoon, around 3:00pm, another local representative
will pick you up and transfer you this time to Arenal Volcano National Park a
for a 2hr long walking tour. In October 2010, Arenal Volcano entered into an
indeterminate resting phase. For the time being, visitors will be unable to
watch the much-loved explosions, although that could change within a matter of
months or years. The tour begins with a walk (a physically moderate walk effort
required) along the Los Tucanes, El Mirador and El Silencio trails. It is
possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, magnificent lava rock
formations and the Arenal Lake. During the tour our guide will inform you about
the history of the majestic mountain and the park.
After the walking tour, you will have the chance to relax and
enjoy a healthy and relaxing soak at the hot springs of Tabacon Resort.

After breakfast, enjoy more leisure time before a noon transfer
to the Papagayo Gulf and the Barcelo Tambor Beach.
After breakfast included at the hotel, you will first stop at
Arenal Hanging Bridges for a Natural Walking tour and then continue to
Tamarindo Beach Area.
Tamarindo has all the amenities of a Costa Rican beach town:
surf, sand and sun.
